Life Long Commitment to Mentor
Women and Minority
v I have been a champion of diversity in the work
place. My diversity commitment has encompassed all aspects to include African
Americans, American Indians / Native Indians, Hispanics, Women, Asians, Whites,
Disabled Veterans, Veterans and professionals with disability.
v Here are example lists, out of my lifelong
commitment:
ü 1. Proud to have run and grown an African American
owned high technology company and set a record in USA and received an award as
the FASTEST Grown Black Owned Company in Top 100 List by Black Enterprise
Magazine and featured in Jet Magazine.
ü 2. Advised many MWDVBE (Minority, Women and
Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise) in technology, business growth and
corporate governance.
ü 3. I ran as the CEO / President / VP of four Black
owned companies in my life.
ü 4. I initiated and ran a program to visit minority
colleges and historically minority colleges and universities and aggressively
recruit black engineers, scientists and other professionals in AT&T Bell
Labs, AT&T, GE, NASA and few private companies where I was an executive.
ü 5. Lectured on the need to hire and mentor women
professionals, as USA has not been successful enough to motivate women to join
and reach the ranks of men, because of "glass ceiling".
ü 6. As a Professor in multiple departments in
universities, I encouraged and mentored women and minority students at
undergraduate and graduate levels.
ü 7. In technology and business professional
societies, trade and industry associations, like IEEE, ASQ, TL 9000 and SVEC
where I was Vice President and President, I always made sure to provide
leadership opportunities to women and minorities.
Academic Excellence and Life Long Continuing Education
v Research and Development in nations leading
industries, full thesis and defense
v Research: Digital Radar System in Bharat
Electronics Limited (BEL), a Public Limited Company in India (similar to
aerospace and defense laboratories in USA), 1969 to 1972.
v First scientist in Indian history and one of the
first few in the world, to use 54 and 74 series integrated circuits in large
system development.
v I was the first scientist to build digital radar
technology in India, and one of the first few in the world.
v During those years worldwide, only NAND gates were
available. I imported these integrated circuits from Signetics (Intel had not
started!).
v When I presented my work to India’s leading
scientists, they were all eager to touch sample spare IC I had in my hand.
v They were 14 pin (and later 16 pin) ICs, called the
dual – in line (DIL) packages. I had to build all systems on single layer PC
boards, using ONLY NAND gates.
v There were no adders, half adders, memory ICs etc.
v I built “wired NAND gate memories” all mathematical
functions using NAND gates.
v I had to pioneer every aspect from import
logistics, incoming inspection testing, PC layout for ICs, subsystem and system
development, test.
v I was my own guide in all aspects of research,
being a pioneer.
v This was the equivalent of Mysore University Ph.D.
program, as it had all components and aspects: Course Work, Research,
Development, Thesis and Defense.
v Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7400_series
to read more on the history of 54 and 74 series of NAND gates.
